Canary Islands holiday weather warning as Tenerife hit with storm | Travel News | Travel


British tourists could be hit with bad weather in the Canary Islands as the top Spanish destination starts the week under a weather warning.

The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) issued a yellow warning for wind in Tenerife and La Palma.

The weather warning is in place from 6pm on Monday January 15 and the whole island of La Palma will be affected.

Northern Tenerife is expected to be worst hit with the warning covering high areas and central summits.

The wind warning will be raised to orange level on Tuesday and will remain in place until at least 9pm.

Gusts are expected to reach 90km/h in La Palma and higher areas of Tenerife. The rest of Tenerife will be under a yellow weather warning on Tuesday.

Gran Canaria, La Gomera and El Hierro will also be under a yellow weather warning on Tuesday, January 16.

The weather agency has also issued a yellow weather warning for rain in La Palma on Tuesday with 15mm per hour expected in some areas of the island.
