How New York got sick of too many tourists – ‘even the staircases aren’t safe’ | Travel News | Travel

New York City, long renowned for its vibrant energy and iconic landmarks, is grappling with an overwhelming influx of tourists.

The allure of the Big Apple has drawn visitors from across the globe for decades, but recent trends indicate that even ordinary features like staircases are becoming unexpected tourist hotspots.

In a list of 24 destinations in North America that were ruined by tourists over the past decade, Business Insider listed New York at the top of their list.

In particular, a staircase located in the Bronx has garnered significant attention, thanks in part to its appearance in the movie “Joker.”

The scene, featuring actor Joaquin Phoenix dancing down the steps, has become an iconic moment, leading to a surge in tourists seeking to recreate the scene and capture the moment for themselves.

While tourism is a vital component of the city’s economy, the influx of visitors has raised concerns about overcrowding and safety, even in seemingly mundane locations like staircases.

As New York continues to attract record numbers of tourists each year, city officials are faced with the challenge of balancing the needs of visitors with those of local residents.

Finding solutions to manage tourist crowds and minimise disruptions to daily life will be essential in maintaining the city’s vibrant atmosphere while ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents and visitors alike.
