The south coast of England is lined with idyllic beach destinations, but its shorelines aren’t the only attraction that draws in visitors.
In the beautiful county that is Sussex, there’s a great mix of countryside scenery and sea-view promenades to enjoy.
A small town known as Arundel is just one staycation spot worth visiting, nestled in the Arun district.
The West Sussex spot is renowned for its medieval roots, picturesque high street, and the large castle that towers above the town centre.
Steeped in history and filled with local gems, people that have already paid Arundel a visit claim that it looks as though it has come “straight from a fairytale”.
The market town is tucked away in the South Downs and surrounded by natural beauty. From the cathedral and historical castle to the meandering river Arun that runs through it, there’s no shortage of things to see.
Not only are there plenty of attractions to visit in the area but the south coast destination is just two hours from London.
Visitors can get off at Arundel station which is just a short walk from the town centre, all the while soaking up the beautiful surroundings as soon as they step off the train.
Taking to TikTok to share her experience of Arundel, travel blogger Kelly (@kellyprincewright) urged her followers to visit the “magical” spot.
Among her list of things to do was a visit to the “secret moat” which surrounds the restored and remodelled medieval castle.
Tourists can take a guided tour of the defences through the dry channels, during which a Medieval Archer talks about the sieges at Arundel Castle.
The heritage site has a chapel, an impressive flower garden and carefully kept grounds to explore as well as the structure itself.
A short walk away from the castle is Swanbourne Lake, home to a traditional tea room and boating shack where people can pay just a few pounds to row on the water.
Once tourists are done soaking up the local history, there are an array of unique shops, restaurants and cafes to tour on the high street.
Located just a stone’s throw away from the Lake is the Norfolk Arms Hotel – a one-of-a-kind spot that borders the stone wall that surrounds the castle grounds.
Ideal for accommodation, food, or just a drink, the hotel sits at the top of a steep road that boasts impressive views of the town.
The Old Print Works are another worthwhile attraction as the home of 10 specialist shops that sell everything from antiques to artwork.
Visitors who have already experienced everything Arundel has to offer praised its charming aesthetic.
Taking to TikTok to share their thoughts, many branded it a “beautiful” place, adding that the castle is “magnificent”.
The Sussex town is best visited in the spring or summer when its famous flowers can be enjoyed in full bloom.
