Bag cheaper flights from ‘alternate airports’ during one month | Travel News | Travel

A flight attendant revealed the best month of the year to book flights on, and why “alternate airports” will make it cheaper.

The veteran cabin crew member says it is best to avoid expectedly busier travel times but immediately after that is a sweet spot of cheap trips and empty airports, if you fly from the right area.

Travel operator Ski Vertigo revealed there were ways around “peak travel season” and suggested heading to smaller airports, avoiding the likes of London and Manchester, which are frequently busy and more so around the Christmas holidays.

But just after the festive period is a window of opportunity for financially savvy holidaymakers, who may want to wait and book their holiday with a slate of post-holiday deals at their disposal.

Better yet, the deals often go unused as the festive period sees people financially spent and the last thing on their minds is to book a holiday.

The flight attendant revealed: “One effective way to save even more when booking in January is by using flight comparison tools such as Google Flights or Skyscanner.

“These platforms allow you to track price trends and set alerts for your preferred routes. By monitoring prices over a few weeks, you can identify the best time to book and maximise your savings.

“Booking directly with airlines after finding deals on comparison sites can sometimes lead to further discounts, as you avoid third-party fees.”

Promotions aimed at the early years sale are just as beneficial to flyers as they are to airlines, with cheap flights providing the public a chance to get away on a steal of a deal.

Advice from Ski Vertigo revealed: “With fewer travellers in January, airlines and hotels are left with more unbooked seats and rooms. In response, they lower prices to encourage bookings.”

Taking trips from those mentioned “alternative airports” is a great travel trick too, with the unnamed flight attendant revealing regional airports are often extremely cheap during these low-cost periods.

They said: “Another useful tip is to consider flying from nearby or alternative airports. Flights to or from smaller regional airports, rather than major hubs, are often cheaper, particularly during low-demand months like January. Checking flights from airports within a reasonable distance can open up more affordable options.

“Don’t forget to use credit card reward points, which can be redeemed for either flights or accommodation, further reducing your overall holiday costs.”
