Best country in the world for British expats named as ‘friendly’ holiday destination | Travel News | Travel

A new expat ranking has named the best country in the world for British expats looking to relocate.

The InterNations Expat Insider survey asked expats to rank their homes based on several key factors.

These included safety and security, cost of living, availability and affordability of housing and working opportunities.

Mexico topped this year’s ranking with one expat describing the Central American country as “the best to live and work in”.

The popular destination topped the list when it came to settling in with expats raving about how friendly the local people were.

Over nine in 10 expats said that local residents were friendly and three in four said it was easy to make friends in Mexico.

An expat from New Zealand said: “Mexico is a very happy country. The people are helpful and friendly, and they celebrate everything!”

Mexico is known for its lively festivals and tourists travel to the country every year to take part in Dia de Muertos and Veracruz’s carnaval.

Expats also found Mexico an affordable place to live with over 85 percent saying their disposable household income was more than enough to live a comfortable life.

An expat from the USA said: “The affordable cost of living makes being here much more enjoyable in general.”

Another expat said: “If you are willing to learn the language and adapt to the local culture, this is the best country to live and work in.”

The majority of expats surveyed moved to Mexico for a better quality of life while just over 10 percent moved to retire abroad.
