Cruise tip lets guests save on shore excursions but comes with warning | Cruise | Travel

When booking a cruise, most guests want to make the most of their time in a new location by booking shore excursions, coach trips that pick guests up from the docks and show them local landmarks or activities.

Whilst cruise companies typically offer a wide variety of excursions to suit all tastes and budgets, Jayson noted that visitors can often find nearly identical tours elsewhere online for significantly less.

In the video he noted that some excursions could be found for 40 percent less than the price offered by the cruise company, meaning guests can save thousands if their cruise has several ports.

In addition, there are many websites that show activities in the nearby area, how far it is from where cruise ships typically dock and how expensive they are to visit.

Some companies, such as Go City, allow tourists to buy a pass to a number of locations in the area, allowing visitors to decide exactly where they want to go on the day.

These passes typically do not require any direct transportation; however, some will include hop-on tour buses which can take guests closer to their destination.

Nevertheless, whilst the tip can help tourists save up for their next getaway, there are some advantages to booking trips out with the cruise company.

One of the most crucial is that the shore excursions arranged by the cruise will have been booked to return guests before the re-embarkation time, with the ship setting sail without tourists if they are on a third-party excursion that is running late.

Cruise line-backed tours are also regularly checked by the company to make sure they meet they are entertaining and keep guests safe at all times.
