While Spain is usually the first choice for retired Britons, there is a huge range of sunny options across Europe.

According to the team’s research, one of the best destinations for British expats is a dreamy Greek island.

“Boasting a strong expat community in areas like Chania and Heraklion, as well as an affordable cost of living, the island’s cultural heritage is evident in its traditional villages, unique customs and delicious cuisine.”
Crete is the fifth largest island in the Mediterranean Sea and the island’s history can be traced back to the 7th millennium BC. The island’s air is thought to have healing powers.
Crete features heavily in Greek mythology and was the birthplace of Zeus and the home of the fearsome Minotaur.
The eastern side of the island is known for rugged beaches while Crete’s western side is busier with coastal villages.
