Grand Canyon ‘dupe’ has clear water, no tourists and is two hours away | Travel News | Travel

The holiday booking company Eurocamp has shared some of the world’s greatest ‘destination dupes‘ that offer some familiar landscapes without the usual crowds.

Growing in popularity over recent months, destination dupes are lesser-known alternatives to world-famous holiday spots that are often much cheaper to visit.

Karen Williams, travel expert at Eurocamp, highlighted that these alternative locations can help tourists discover somewhere with a very unique yet authentic culture.

She explained: “Destination dupes are great ways to see lesser-known spots whihc are often cheaper, and less crowded than their more popular counterparts.

“Not only are there cost benefits to visiting less popular destinations but these areas are often enriched in culture and can give holidaymakers a more authentic and original travel experience, which can result in some serious Insta-envy.”

Tourists who are thinking about visiting an alternative to America’s Grand Canyon were advised by Eurocamp to consider Le Gorges du Verdon in France.

Located in the Provence-Alpes-Cote d’Azur region of the country, the gorge features a 700-metre deep rivine which leads to the turquoise-coloured Verdon River.

In addition to admiring the stunning views, more active tourists can rent a kayak or even scale up the sides of the gorge.

Eurocamp also suggested that holidaymakers planning to visit The Maldives try the Kvarner Gulf, just off the north coast of mainland Croatia.

An archipelago is home to a number of beautiful islands, such as Cres and Lošinj, that feature traditional Mediterranean architecture and a mix of sand and pebble beaches.

In particular, the company recommended tourists stay at the San Marino holiday park during their stay in the Kvarner Gulf, a site that features plenty of natural beauty and is a short walk away from Paradise Beach.

Finally, Eurocamp noted that a much more peaceful and affordable alternative to Santorini in Greece is Puglia, a small coastal town in Southern Italy.

Similar to the famous Greek island, Puglia features a wide range of traditional houses in white or bright, pastel shades, in addition to no less than 500 miles of attractive coastline.

To have the best time in Puglia, Eurocamp suggested going for a coastal drive, stating that their La Scogliera holiday park lets visitors rent a classic Fiat 500 to experience the views in a very authentic manner.
