Stunning holiday spot that’s 28C in October most ‘in-demand’ for Brits | Africa | Travel

If the thought of another long cold winter here in the UK is getting you down, something that always helps is booking a holiday someplace warm.

And if you’re keen to escape Europe and see what the rest of the world has to offer, there’s one stunning spot around six hours from the UK that’s recently been named as the most in-demand place for Brits to visit.

The West African Island Country of Cape Verde is making waves amongst UK holidaymakers, according to a new study by Dubai Tours and Tickets, as it’s racking up thousands of Google searches every month.

Made up of 10 islands in the Atlantic, it’s the perfect place for Brits to enjoy some winter sun – as it’s still around 28C even in October.

And with long, sandy beaches, rugged coastlines and a bustling nightlife, there’s so much to see and do that people of all ages will love.

One of the region’s most popular islands is Sal, which you can fly to from the UK with TUI. It’s been described as a ‘beach lover’s paradise’ by the Cape Verde Experience, so is perfect if you’re in search of a relaxing holiday.

It boasts golden sandy beaches surrounded by clear blue waters, as well as a rich culture and excellent food and drink – meaning there’s something here for everyone.

The capital of Sal, Espargos, is located in the centre of the island. However, the main resort area is in Santa Maria in the south, which boasts an array of shops, restaurants and bars as well as plenty of hotels surrounding the sandy shores.

A real must-do activity is to visit the mirage at Terra Boa – as this phenomenon appears as an ocean right in the middle of the desert.

Boa Vista is another popular spot, thanks to its rich golden sands and relaxed, low-key atmosphere.

The island is home to some of the archipelago’s most beautiful beaches, with the sands here stretching for 55km. Here, you can choose to relax by the water, or if you prefer to be more active, it’s the perfect place to take part in some watersports.

The same can be said for the great range of accommodation in Boa Vista, offering the temptation to recharge by the pool one day, and the chance to get involved in numerous activities the next.

When you’re not beside the coast, be sure to head inland to see desert-like landscapes and even the odd ruins of an abandoned village. You’ll find the main town of the island, Sal Rei, in the north-west, a location gradually becoming home to more restaurants and bars, as well as showcasing some intriguing architectural landmarks.

In terms of food and drink, the offerings in Cape Verde include local Creole and Portuguese specialities including seafood, meats and vegetarian options.

Cachupa Rica is Cape Verde’s national dish, which is a stew made with fish, meat and vegetables that is definitely worth a try when you’re visiting.

Fresh fish is a major part of the cuisine, with a very popular dish being bafas – fish cooked with tomato, onion and peppers in breadcrumbs, either served as a snack or an appetiser.

And no visit is complete without enjoying a Caipirinha or two, a delicious Brazilian-inspired cocktail made with local liquor and sugar cane.
