A canopy walk in Malaysia hailed as the world’s longest has a terrifying 45 metre drop to the jungle floor. The walkway at Taman Negara National Park offers those brave enough to cross its views of the jungle below, with thousands doing so every year, according to the park authorities.
It takes about half an hour to get from one end to the other along the 550-metre-long route suspended over the tropical rainforest.
Getting to the bridge involves a 30-40 minute walk through the national park’s headquarters, with a licensed guide available to keep you safe and spot flora and fauna.
Six hundred people are allowed on the bridge at any one time, with admission costing about 83p for an adult and 50p for children.
Visitors who have said they walked the bridge recommend the experience, with one reviewer, posting on TripAdvisor from an account named David S, saying they took their five-year-old son who “managed very well”.
They warned that while it was a “fascinating” and “very enjoyable” experience, people shouldn’t expect to see tigers and panthers.
Another person said “love the place” and “love the hike”, while fellow reviewer, ALR0609, said the trek requires a “moderate” level of fitness.
They also suggested contacting the national park before visiting to check the walkway is open as it can be closed due to heavy rain.
BuncitTravels said they felt “terrified” of heights and it was “rather unnerving” when they first got on the bridge as it swings a bit as you walk, but it became a “spectacular” highlight of their trip to Taman Negara.
Macedonboy commented in a review posted on February 2020: “Getting to this place requires a nearly 2km trek, but I thought it was worth it to walk along this iconic attraction in Taman Negara.
“At over 500 metres, this canopy is regarded as the world’s longest and a fantastic way to see the forest from a different perspective”.
Taman Negara recommends packing lightweight and breathable clothes if visiting the national park where it says temperatures range from 26C-35C during the day and 24C-29C at night.
“Comfortable” and “durable” footwear is also “an absolute must”, according to the park, which recommends trekking or hiking shoes.
