The list of items cruise passengers are banned from packing – full list | Cruise | Travel

Cruise holidaymakers generally have more freedom than plane passengers when it comes to packing.

Guests won’t have the same liquid limits as on a flight and usually don’t have a weight limit to follow.

However, there are a few banned items that are specific to cruises due to safety rules and regulations.

Guests are sometimes allowed to bring their own alcohol onboard but this will usually be subject to limits.

If passengers want to buy alcohol at one of their destinations to take home, it will be confiscated until the last day of their cruise.

Candles and any item that operates using an open flame are banned on cruise ships due to fire hazards.

Guests could bring a battery operated candle if they want to create a romantic atmosphere in their cabin.

Curling irons and hair straighteners are allowed onboard while matches and normal lighters are also permitted. Torch lighters or novelty lighters shaped like guns are not allowed onboard.

Royal Caribbean does allow guests onboard with scissors that have a blade length of less than four inches.

Guests will need to be careful about taking fresh food off the ship as many destinations have rules against bringing food across the border.

It’s best not to try to take any food off the ship unless it’s a pre-packaged snack. Although cannabis may be legal in some destinations, guests are not allowed to bring any products onto the cruise ship.
