The pretty little seaside village named among UK’s best kept secrets | Travel News | Travel

With gloomy weather currently holding the UK in its grip, you might be dreaming about your next year’s summer holiday already. According to HomeToGo’s 2021 UK Hidden Gem Index, you don’t even need to go far to enjoy stunning beaches and fresh sea air.

The team from HomeToGo ranked the most picturesque villages in National Parks and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty across the country. Looking at factors including weather, outdoor activities, pubs, price and availability, the site identified the perfect places to visit.

While Hathersage, Derbyshire took the first spot, the seaside village of Mullion in Cornwall ranked third with a score of 48.7. Hidden on the Lizard Peninsula, Mullion offers white sandy beaches as well as plenty of culture to savour.

The seaside village boasts one of Cornwall’s most impressive landscapes. Dotted with breathtaking coastlines, you can admire the dramatic cliffs shaped by the Atlantic Ocean.

The powder-soft beaches and quiet, secluded coves offer a great place to lay out a blanket and enjoy a picnic or tuck into a book. For those looking for a more adventurous holiday, you could give fishing or water sports a go.

Among the beautiful beaches, sits the crown jewel, Mullion Cove, a sandy beach which is below a historic lifeboat station and the working Mullion harbour.

Dating back to the 1890s, the stunning harbour even offers a mysterious cave to explore at low tide.

And if you’re planning to holiday with your pet, you will be pleased to know that Mullion Cove is dog-friendly all year round.

As well as Mullion Cove, there are three more beautiful beaches located nearby where you can enjoy a variety of outdoor activities.

Mullion’s supply of fresh seawater means that your tastebuds will also love this holiday.

You can indulge in local seafood and visit one of the fantastic restaurants that the village has on its menu.

For those looking to soak up some local culture and get a nice memento to take back home, Mullion is an assortment of historical sites, shops, art galleries, pubs and tearooms.

To sweeten the deal, the seaside village is also a home to a chocolate factory. Here you can be tempted by everything from chocolate bars to truffles made out of fragrant Belgian chocolate.

Whatever you decide to do in idyllic Mullion, you will be sure of wanting to return.
