A tourist has taken to Reddit to complain about one of the world’s most popular tourist destinations. They said Prague was ruined due to crowds.
Prague, the capital of Czechia, is one of Europe’s leading tourist destinations and receives around seven million tourists per year. The city’s Old Town is the main draw for visitors.
One tourist ‘robinlmorris’ said: “I’ve been to Venice in summer and Kyoto in April, but nothing was as bad as Prague in September.
“Wall to wall tourists and all the shops sold cheap tourist crap. The main square was full of bad street performers that had nothing to do with Prague. It felt more like medieval Disneyland than a real city. We didn’t like it all.”
According to Euromonitor, tourists outnumber local residents by six to one in Prague, much less than in another top European destination.
However, the crowds had also spoilt the experience for another tourist who shared their experience on Reddit.
‘EnvironmentalClock20’ wrote: “I guess we were kind of unlucky because we stayed in the city during the Easter weekend, it was so crowded everywhere, especially in the area near the astronomical clock.
“We even had trouble finding restaurants to eat for the day and ended up eating in a very dodgy place.
“It was definitely a beautiful city but I couldn’t enjoy it at its fullest back then due to the crowds. Would definitely love to go back again during the off peak season someday.”
Prague’s high season is generally between June and August when the city is at its hottest and most European countries have school holidays.
Although December is quieter than summer, it can still be a popular time to visit the city due to the Christmas markets.
