Travel expert debunks myth that cruise ships are crowded with tourists | Cruise | Travel

A popular travel personality has taken to TikTok to debunk a number of myths that have made people think twice before booking a cruise holiday.

Preston runs the TikTok page @ship_facts and regularly posts videos offering advice to viewers on how they can get the most enjoyment and value from their time on board a cruise, along with showcasing some of the best features the latest ships have.

In one of his latest videos, Preston talks about cruising myths, stating that the ships are nowhere near as crowded as some people claim.

He explained: “While it’s true that cruise ships can accommodate thousands of passengers, modern cruise ships are designed to provide plenty of space for everyone.

“There are plenty of open decks, lounges, restaurants, and entertainment areas to spread out and enjoy without feeling crowded.”

Currently, the largest cruise ship in the world is the Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas, which has the capacity to hold 7,600 passengers and an additional 2,350 crew members.

However, in order to avoid passengers feeling too crowded, the large ship features no less than seven swimming pools, a Category 6 waterpark, 20 restaurants and cafes and an ice arena.

Similarly, smaller cruise ships will feature a number of dining and leisure options to prevent any particular part from feeling too busy and make sure that tourists do not feel restricted once on board.

Later in the video, Preston added that cruising is no longer for retirees, stating that, depending on the brand passengers choose, tourists of all ages can have fun on a ship.

He added: “While cruising used to be associated with an older demographic, cruise lines have been diversifying their offerings to appeal to a wider range of travellers.

“Many cruise lines now offer activities and entertainment for all age groups.”

Finally, the travel expert stated that a cruise holiday does not have to be expensive, urging viewers to look out for any offers promoted by companies to boost sales.

He continued: “While luxury cruising can be costly, there are many affordable options available for around $50 (£40) or less per night.

“Booking during off-peak seasons or taking advantage of promotions and deals could score you a really good deal.”
