UK’s trending staycation destination is a historic market town | Travel News | Travel

Spring is officially here and with Easter just around the corner, it might be time to book a staycation.

The expert team at Airbnb have shared the top trending destinations on the booking platform for the Easter long weekend.

The holiday home platform has seen a 17 percent increase in rural bookings for Easter weekend, suggesting tourists are keen to get out of the city.

But where’s this year’s top trending destination?

Penrith, a pretty market town in Cumbria’s Eden Valley, was this year’s leading Easter weekend choice.

The red-brick town is the ideal base to explore the beautiful Eden Valley or it’s also very close to the Lake District and Pennines.

Penrith still reflects its history as a market town and Visit Lake District said: “Even today, its distinctive red sandstone buildings are full of specialist, family-run shops, cosy pubs and atmospheric old pubs, while its Tuesday market still does a roaring trade.”

The town’s cobbled streets are packed with independent boutiques and cosy cafes, making it the ideal place to relax this Easter holiday.

Fort Augustus, a pretty village in Scotland, was also one of this year’s top trending destinations on Airbnb.

Amanda Cupples, general manager of Northern Europe at Airbnb, said: “Easter is the perfect moment to take some time with your loved ones, and there’s no better way to spend the long weekend than in the hidden gems of beautiful, rural destinations around the UK, offering a setting to reset and rejuvenate this spring.

“With the hectic pace of life, and the rising cost of living – it’s no wonder that this year we’re longing for getaways in tranquil places closer to nature, where we can pause and recharge.”
