When holidaying abroad safety is paramount, so it’s important to do your research before booking flights.
The Global Peace Index (GPI) measures the peacefulness of countries made up of 23 quantitative and qualitative indicators. The lower the score, the safer the country.
Three European countries top the list, Iceland (with a score of 1.124), Denmark (with a score of 1.31) and Ireland (with a score of 1.312).
While this cannot 100 percent guarantee a trouble-free visit, holidaymakers can expect an easy, enjoyable experience.
However, many travellers like to jet further afield for a holiday, venturing outside of Europe.
New Zealand has a GPI of 1.313, making it the fourth most peaceful country on the list.
It sn’t exactly local, and there are currently no direct flights there from the UK, so it’s definitely advisable to spend a few weeks in this beautiful island country.
Travel website 100% Pure New Zealand shared an “ultimate bucket list” for those visiting the country.
It read: “A land of beauty and adventure, New Zealand is home to incredible activities worthy of a place on anyone’s bucket list.”
Lord of the Rings fans should check out Hobbiton, while budding astronomers should head to Mount Cook for some stargazing.
It’s home to some of the “darkest skies in the world” and it’s the “perfect” place to enjoy some “breathtaking stargazing experiences”.
At the Hot water beach on the Coromandel Peninsula, holidaymakers can “create their own natural jacuzzi in the wet sand during low tide”.
The Waitomo Caves system is a “series of fascinating and dramatic natural wonders”, a “spectacular” sight for any travellers.
For those who love the Northern Lights, New Zealand’s Southern Lights are equally fabulous. From Dunedin, expect “remarkable reflections in the water”.
